Recertification is also obtained through NCCPA.
Some states require recertification while other states do not, however most PAs choose to maintain their certification so that they may continue using PA-C after their name.
In addition to another exam (Physician Assistant National Recertifying Exam - PANRE), you must complete Continuing Medication Education (CME) requirements as well.
Every two years you must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education, with half of these units designated as preapproved category 1 CMEs.

In 2009 the NCCPA stopped offering the Pathway II option, which was a take home recertification exam.
